★ I am still in Washington, waiting for my work visa, so that I can start work in Tokyo. I hope it will show up (現れる) soon, I am starting to worry a little bit! So, this has given me time to make a few short lists about London.

★ Best wandering (うろうろする) areas:

Camden Town has lots of vintage stores, interesting cafes and a pretty canal (運河). The atmosphere is very busy and colorful, but is often crowded on weekends.
Notting Hill which is mostly famous for the weekend open air stalls (青空市場) is also nice, and quieter, on weekdays. There are some great fancy clothing stores, nice antiques stores and specialty (専門家) bookstores. The "Books for Cooks" store also has a small restaurant!
Regent's Park is surprisingly big, it goes all the way to Primrose Hill, which has a great views (景色) over London. My favorite part is the rose garden, which has hundreds of different kinds of roses. They smell wonderful, and it is the perfect place for a picnic.

★ Best coffee in London:

England is famous for tea, especially afternoon tea, but sometimes you just need a cup of coffee! The best capuccino I drank was from Carluccio's, which also has tasty (美味しい) breakfasts. The best espresso in London is at The Espresso Room, a tiny bar which can be difficult to find. But, it is worth it (価値がある)!

★ Life in Washington★

♡ Hi! The cute corgi picture is my apology (お詫び) for not writing in a long time. BUT, I have a good excuse (口実). I left London, and am now in Washington DC, waiting for my work visa for Japan. While waiting, I have had a lot of dental work (口腔外科), which has NOT been fun!

♡ The dog in the picture is my puppy, Brando. He is a Welsh Corgi, and is super-friendly. Although he looks big, he is only 8 months old, so has a lot of energy. I spend a lot of time running after (追いかける) him! Isn't he adorable?

♡ Most of my dental work is done, so now I can do more interesting things. Today is my father's birthday, so I walked to a famous little place called Hello Cupcake, where I got him some delicious cupcakes to celebrate. It was so hard to choose, they all looked delicious!

♡ Decorating Dreams ♡

★ In a couple months (一、二ヶ月以内) I will be moving to Tokyo to start my first job... as long as I am given a visa (ビザをもらわなければ)! I am very excited, but of course also a little bit nervous. I have lived in Chiba and Kobe, but it will be my first time actually living in Tokyo, not just visiting!

★ One thing I am especially looking forward to (〜楽しみにしている) is decorating my new room. I love vintage house ware (家具等) and finding beautiful things to make my living space feel like home. American-style quilts (キルト) are so colorful, they make any room seem brighter!

★ I have a special love for Japanese antiques (although usually they are too expensive for me!), especially tansu. I look forward to finding treasures around Tokyo!

★ Scotland ★

♡ I just turned 24 (２４歳になったばかり), so as a birthday present to myself I took a short trip to Scotland! I started in Edinburgh, which is a very beautiful, old city, with a huge castle. I also went to the 'Elephant Cafe', where JK Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter books!

♡ I was very lucky. Scotland is infamous (悪名高い) for having very rainy, cold weather. But, except for the first day in Edinburgh, the weather was sunny every day! The second day I climbed a mountain called 'The Cobbler' (製靴さん), which was amazing (but a little scary sometimes). The mountains are very green and wild, a completely different feeling from London.

♡ Finally, I went to the beautiful Isle of Gigha, a tiny little island with few inhabitants (住民). I fell in love with it (一目惚れした)! There are white sand beaches (although the water is very cold!), lots of animals and nature, and good hiking roads. I enjoyed the quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

♡ New York News ♡

★ Yesterday the State of New York voted (決を取った) to allow same-sex marriage (同性結婚), which is very exciting! Same-sex marriage is currently legal (合法的) in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden. Many more countries, including the United Kingdom, allow civil unions, which gives gay couples all the same rights (人権) as non-gay couples.

★ I believe that everyone should be able to marry the person they love, and am very happy to hear that even the United States is (slowly) becoming more equal (対等関係).
